Rainier Council Governance

The Rainier Council of Square and Folk Dance Federation of Washington encourages cooperation and coordination among the square and round dance clubs in Pierce County and Federal Way in King County. Each club has two delegates to the council. The council publishes an informative booklet for new dancers (click here to see it), hosts some all-club dances, coordinates some promotional activities (e.g., Puyallup Fair demonstrations and booth, parade float, council website), gives recognition awards to deserving individuals, and represents the clubs of Rainier Council in meetings of the state federation. Council meetings are at the clubhouse of the Sans Souci residential development (on Puyallup's South Hill) at 7:30 pm on the first Monday (Sept. - June). Visitors are welcome. The address is 11209 - 127th St. E., Puyallup, WA 98374.

The 2011-2012 council officers are:
President: Joyce Sebree
Vice President: Lynn Redd
Treasurer: Don Wiggins
Recording Secretary: Tom Tomlinson
Corresponding Secretary: Mike Grater
Area Council State Delegate: Carol Thompson
Delegate to the State Nominating Committee: Joyce Sebree

Council Awards; Kenn Trimble Award

The Kenn Trimble Award was established to honor a Rainier Council couple, single, or family who has done an outstanding job of promoting Square Dancing in our Council. The award (and recipient(s) badge) is given at the Spring Festival each year. It is not meant to be a prize for being the best at any one thing, but as recognition for a job well done and all the hard work keeping this great hobby of ours alive.  It takes more than one person as we all know. This award is to be kept with the recipient(s) for one year and then passed on to another deserving person or couple to be determined by the immediate past recipient of the award with help from your nominations. Please nominate your recipient by letter to the Executive Committee prior to the January meeting.

Past recipients include:
2000  Mark & Jennie Sebree
2001  Tom & Fay Tomlinson
2002  Joyce Sebree & Wayne Patton
2003  Chuck & Joan McLean
2004  Ted & Dee Mazetier
2005  Dave & Nina Pearcy
2006  Steve & JoAnn MacKay
2007  Al & Kathy Tokin
2008 Frank & Kathy Chase
2009 Carol Thompson
2010  Lynn Red
2011  Tony & Sharon Herman

A special note from Kathy (Frank) Chase, Kenn’s daughter: Kenn Trimble was actively involved in square dancing for many, many years. He was President of State, Council and clubs throughout the years. He especially loved the kids. He was a big promoter for kids and square dancing. He was just a doer - anything that needed doing, he was there to help. And he was editor of Footnotes for about 13 years.

Because of his love and support for the youth in our activity, the fund which was established in 2005 to help with Youth Competition expenses was renamed the Kenn Trimble Youth Fund. Youth and teen clubs may submit receipts for reimbursement for expenses incurred during competition if there is a hardship.

The President’s Award was established to honor a Rainier Council couple or individual for their outstanding support within the Council. The award was created in 2005 and was first named the Achievement Award. The President’s Award is awarded at the Spring Festival to the person(s) selected by the current President. The 2011 recipients, selected by Steve & JoAnn Mackay, are Len & Jeanette Howe. The Howes have been pillars supporting Bonney Lads 'n' Lassies for decades and have been that club's delegates to the Rainier Council for many years.
