Written by Steve and JoAnn MacKay

Rainier Council's parade float (pulled by truck)Each year, the Rainier Council enters our square dancing float in the Daffodil Parade, and it provides wonderful public exposure and promotion of our fun activity.

Here's a Report on the 2010 Parade

April 10, 2010 started out cold and windy, but spirits were high and smiles were warm as dancers waited for the Daffodil Parade to begin. It was the coldest start in memory, but as the day progressed it warmed up and we were grateful that it didn’t rain. This was the 11th year for the Rainier Council Parade Float to participate in the Daffodil, and the 32nd parade that the float has been in since the Council took ownership in 2000. This year, the float received first place in its category. “Thank you!” to all who arrived early in the morning to dance onboard during judging. As the Float Manager, Steve MacKay often says, “The float is nothing without the people that are willing to help promote dancing.”

The day starts in Tacoma, continues in Puyallup, races onward to Sumner and then finally ends in Orting.

This year, callers Kenny Freeman and Leo Catt warmed up the dancers in Tacoma, Greg Weber kept them moving through Puyallup, Andy Garboden called in Sumner, and energetic Brett Kappenman livened up the last leg of the parade in Orting. The crowds gave the float and dancers a warm reception, lots of smiles and friendly applause. Thank you, Rainier Council Dancers and the greater Tacoma community for your support!

2016 WA State Fair Mob Squad

All Mob Squad 2016 Participants:bbb

First, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for making the effort to sign-up, to plan, to practice, and (most-important) to actually show-up and participate in what I believe is the largest square-dance-themed flash-mob ever assembled!

Well over 500 participants were there. Over 60 clubs from all across WA (and even northern OR) were represented in the total. There's NO DOUBT we've set the standard by which other square dance flash mobs will, initially at least, be measured.

There's were lots of cell-phone videos taken from a variety of sources, and it will take a while to come up with a compilation that best represents the many sites and scenes we'd like to share.  I'm attaching a link of the best one I've seen so-far (I believe Letrisha Hatch captured it) to give you glimpse of what it looked like from a "spectator" point of view. I posted it up on the Swingnuts YouTube channel (because I can), but there will be plenty more I'm sure before we're all done.

There are number Facebook posts as well. I'd like to request of anyone who took video (or even still photos), to please upload it to a "gallery" I've created to collect all the snips and snaps I can get. Here's a Guest Upload link (works with desktops, tablets, cell phones...just drag/drop any of your video or pictures directly on the linked page):

Here's the gallery as it currently exists (no sorting, captioning, formatting, etc, "photo credits"). Ifyou DO upload videos or still photos, please shoot me an email to let me know that you have uploaded "content" to the gallery so I know to whom to attribute it.

"Cheers" (3 Cheers....it's Over!) Everybody, Lane.
