South Sound Singles Club will be hosting the Rainier Council's annual Footnotes Dance on Sunday, February 26, 2012, from 1:30-3:30 pm at Collins Grange, 3404 120th Ave. E., Tacoma, WA.  This dance is to promote dancers renewing (or starting) their annual subscriptions to the state square dance federation's monthly magazine named Footnotes.  The dance is free for Rainier Council club dancers who subscribe (as individuals or couples) to Footnotes for the discounted price of $13 (since the Council's treasury will pay $2 of every subscription received at the dance).  Click on the Footnotes logo, below, to go to the state federation's Footnotes page.

Kenny Freeman is the MC/caller and Lorraine Rouse the MC/cuer. This will be a cookie potluck so if each club can bring cookies and we will have them out for all of the dance. To get a PDF of the flyer, click on it.

We hope that all members of Rainier Council will subscribe to Footnotes to keep informed of all our square dance community's activities.

The Rainier Council's annual Spring Festival dance will be Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Sumner Valley Dance Hall, hosted by Swingnuts, 8-10:30pm. Pre-rounds at 7:30pm. All clubs and dancers are encouraged to join in.  It is held annually in March or April, whichever month has a fifth Saturday in the year.

The theme this year is "Let's Go to the Movies," so movie-theme costumes are encouraged (but not required).  Click on the flyer to download a PDF copy of it.

The Rainier Council's New Year's Eve dance was actually the evening before New Year's eve, on December 30, 2011. Callers were "Jokers Wild" (Steve Haslett and Greg Weber); cueing was by Sue Weber and Tom Tomlinson.

The dance was well-attended, with six or seven squares on the floor much of the evening with many more dancers socializing around and about.  We had a great ham dinner at 10:30 pm, and danced 'til midnight, celebrating an Aussie new year!

The Spinners club and Bonney Lads 'n' Lassies club co-hosted the Rainier Council 2010 New Year's Eve Dance. Shortly after 8:00 pm we had nine squares on the floor, but too many dancers departed before the midnight hugging and noisemaking.
